Kurrant stated during an interview that his main priority as an upcoming artist is to make the best music within his abilities that people can relate to personally.
“I want to create lasting stories and not one hit wonders”
He also mentioned of an upcoming project he plans to release titled, “Stories From The Sidewalk” which is the first of an EP trilogy.
Kurrant released his most recent EP called, “A Beautiful Display Of Decay In Society” available on all online music platforms.
Learning his perspective of the artist that inspired him and we found out that Bring Me To The Horizon and NF gave him the inspiration he needed to become and upcoming artist on the rise.
“I’ve also really been into BLP Kosher and I think his influence has helped round out the sound that I was shopping”
Kurrant expounds on how he spends allot of off time doing tattoos. He stated that he used to skateboard within his upbringing also.
“I had to retire from skateboarding because my body couldn’t handle it anymore, so I’ve been building skate parks for fingerboards and learning skateboarding that way.”
Kurrant was asked how long does it take you to finish a project when it comes to the production process?
He responded,
“This is where things are going to get interesting. If I already have a beat, or a concept for a project, It doesn’t usually take me more than a week to compile things together. My entire Pure Anarchy series was seven albums across 1 year, a couple of EPs in the middle. My two full length albums, however, took about a year a piece to complete, because when I tie my name to something official I want it to be the best it can be and it took a lot of time to perfect those projects.”
Kurrant let it be known how he feels that his biggest struggles as an artist is that he is, “agoraphobic” so he has a fear of reaching out to other musicians.
One of the funniest moments within the studio is when he is, “talking shit” to himself in attempts to pump himself up. He spoke of how long it took to cultivate his style of rap and even when he raps fast.
“when are you going to grow up and rap right” for example. And I remember one time I was having a hard time nailing a really fast part, because I would get to the end of the bar and run out of breath, so I was talking about cutting open my throat to get a little more wind and things like that, obviously not in a serious way, but just trying to motivate me and then I realized my wife was in the other room laughing at me just being stupid and it made me feel better and I was able to pull through.
One of his most valued lyrics he has most dear to him are,
“I won’t socialize/If I can avoid it, I’ll pass it by/I’ll go out of my way if it keeps me safe/It’s all a part of a plan for a better day”
Admire My Canvas- The Rant Room
This is a song that explores the way that I have felt being in crowds with my agoraphobia, and I really feel like it represents who I am as a person, because if I ignore somebody I’m not usually trying to be rude, but my anxiety makes it very hard for me to interact with people on a normal basis.
He was asked what was his experience like when he first stepped into an studio and he responded,
“My first taste of a studio was for my very, very first EP called She’s Fallen back when I was using the name Gre’Scale in 2009. I was in the living room of my girlfriend at the time’s parent’s place and I felt like I was on top of the world. Thinking back on it now even has got me realizing that was the first time I felt comfortable in something that I was doing that was totally my decision, and it had already come with backlash from my mother, So it was the first time that I felt my rebellion was paying off. It was a beautiful moment for everybody involved.”
Kurrant aims to see more digital sales with his music In the next 6 months. He also planes to debut a clothing brand for his fans to enjoy with a variation of his logo. All to branch out the awareness of his brand as an artist. He wants to show the world how music is only one side of art.
He stated that he would be willing to do a feature with BLP Kosher which is his highest priority at the current time. He would also like to work with Krizz Kaliko and Strange Music.
We asked him where did his artist name come from and he stated,
“I remember in a movie hearing that you had to wear your fear like a symbol, and I always make a reference to how Bruce Wayne got swarmed with bats and that’s where he kind of developed his alternate persona. In that way, I’m afraid of the water, so I actually have a wave tattoo under my eye, and my name Kurrant. While it flows with the water theme, can also be broken down to two things: my name Kurt and the word rant, which symbolizes how I make a lot of my music.”
Outside of music he plans to get a job producing beats, or even get into the photo/video part of the industry. The filming industry is something that’s always interested him,
“I’ve done well at acting in the past. That and I’d like to continue learning about tattooing, because that’s something that has helped me even mentally recently”
He wants all upcoming artist to know,
“Haters gonna hate. Yes, it’s a cliche, but if you don’t stay true to you, and you lose your identity over doing what other people want because you were made fun of for being you in the first place, you got no business calling yourself real cuz that’s the fakest shit I ever heard.”
He stated,
“I’d really like to hit the road in the future. Get into playing shows this year and in the next year or so take a small little tour. I’d really love to hit the road with something that people want to come see.”
